“The only true realist is the visionary” (Federico Fellini).
The Mostra del Cinema di Genova, co-founded by
Associazione Culturale 28 Dicembre and ACEC, is devoted to cinema
as an art form. We will privilege films with a poetic or
visionary value and innovative languages.
We will give equal importance to fiction and non fiction
works, to features and shorts, and the festival’s Grand Prix, dedicated to
Eadweard Muybridge (Grand Prix Pigeon Flying, Plate 755, 2500€) will be assigned
to the Best Film regardless of genre, duration and theme.
Ample attention will be given also to films out of competition, both in the
form of special screenings and retrospectives, focusing this year on the
theme of Memory, meant in both the historical and introspective sense,
collective or personal, a Memory of Cinema and a Cinema of Memory.
The works selected for the Festival will be screened, under the
patronage of ACEC, in five different cinemas in Genoa, and, under the
patronage of Alliance française de Gênes, in the auditorium of the
French Institute of Culture, located in the very heart of the old
town’s historical centre. The works
selected for Video Art section of the Festival, together with a selection
of experimental works, will be screened instead at Fotogalleria Incantations,
in Genoa’ s ancient Jewish Ghetto.
The Festival is promoted by a Committee composed by Massimo Bacigalupo, professor and filmmaker, Camillo
Bassi, writer, Anna Costantini, professor and art historian, Valentina Damiani,
cinema exhibitor, Giuliano Galletta, journalist, Giancarlo Giraud, cinema exhibitor and president of ACEC Liguria,
Philip Groening, film director. Winner of the Special Prize of the Jury at the Venice Film Festival and member of
the European Film Academy, Gregorio Paonessa, producer (VivoFilm-Roma), Sandro Ricaldone, art critic, Andrea
Rocco, audiovisual industry consultant, Carla Sibilla, manager, Svitlana Zinovieva, producer and director of
photography (Inspiration Films-Kiev), Pierre Padovani (art critic), Silvio Soldini (film director).
